Parking charges for motorcycles and scooters spreads to France
For several weeks the French internet site Moto Net has been reporting on the debate in France about parking charges to be introduced in Vincennes in April. A charge of one euro fifty cents is proposed for each two hour period which would make for an expensive addition for those who ride to work.
The western part of London (Westminster) has for several years imposed a daily one pound fee on riders. By contrast the City of London (the financial district) retains free parking.
In Geneva city authorities are now imposing fines on riders who park on pavements and not in official motorcycling parking bays. FIM’s views are set out in our document on mobility. There are parts of some streets where this type of parking does not cause any problems to pedestrians as shown in the example here.
Meanwhile in France a demonstration against the new parking fees is planned for Saturday 24th February.
